Celebrating women warriors was the idea behind a recent event on Camp Pendleton, supported by the USO.
With 2018 marking the 100th year of the female Marine and the 75th year of female Marines on Camp Pendleton, a uniform pageant was held to celebrate.
The event was co-ordinated by Marine Air Group 39 but was open to all female Marines across the base.
Center manager Ann Jarvis said the day was very interesting.
“They had uniforms from the past 100 years and then as the Marines modelled the uniforms, they had a bit of a story about notable female Marines during each time period,” she said.
They day also featured guest speaker retired U.S. Marines Col. Marianne Waldrop and a cake cutting with the older and youngest female Marines from Camp Pendleton.
USO Camp Pendleton provided a photo booth which was very popular.
“Our programs manager Tracy worked her magic fingers and made a really cool backdrop which said Woman Warrior,” Ann said.
“She had this ingenious idea of making all the female Marines write what’s important about being a female Marine to them on the paper and that was really successful.”
