Ice cream was the flavour of the month for USO Camp Pendleton in July.
To celebrate the centre’s new mobile unit arriving on base and in honour of July being national ice cream month, staff and volunteers travelled the base handing out ice creams and popsicles.
Programs manager Tracy Genica said the base-wide tour was a great opportunity to show off the new mobile unit.
“We went to different commands and to different neighborhoods and housing and tried to spread out as much as we could,” she said.
“We gave out anywhere from 100 to 500 popsicles every time and then people could come into the mobile unit and tour or just hang out.”
The new mobile unit was very popular, with Marines and families taking advantage of the air conditioning, comfortable seats and bluetooth.
“It was a lot of fun,” Ms Genica said.
“We were also playing remixed ice cream truck music so that was a bonus - the young Marines really liked it and the kids loved it as well.”
